Hello Michelle~

Excellent questions.

1. The reason for leaving out creamers or artificial sweeteners is because from my trials and research, they are contributing factors to imbalances in the body and may result in blotchy/acne containing skin. I used to be a huge diet soda fan and there were noticeable differences in my skin when I stopped drinking them and then when I started back drinking them. They are detrimental to the skin like caffeine and alcohol, again for some people; the key is to test it for a while and see if you notice any changes.

You just correlated it for yourself with the difference with straight cream and sugar verses the artificial versions :) It's one of those kind of things where you would not think that something as insignificant as a small amount of creamer could break you out.

Interesting that you noticed the taste of creamers comparable to alcohol. Hmm, I am not sure why it tastes similar to alcohol, but I suspect that it is the mixture of coffee with it that produces a similar flavor. Non-dairy artificial creamers do not contain similar ingredients as alcohol, but I suspect with alcohol that since it is taxing on the liver, it may contribute to acne for some people. Whereas, with creamers, they tend to have hydrogenated oils (which are bad for health overall), corn syrup, sugar, carrageenan, and a whole other host of artificial ingredients that may be taxing on the liver as well. So, that may be the correlation.

Hi, I was wondering what the reason for leaving out creamers or artificial sweeteners? Are they bad for skin as well as caffine and alcohol? I drink coffee a lot, and have never thought about it before, but it does seem like when I use creamers instead of straight cream and sugar that is does make me break out more. Also, sometimes when I put creamer in, the first sips taste like actual alcohol. It is like the flavor of a mudslide blended drink. Do creamers contain the same things as alcohol that are bad for skin?

Excellent question, Fiorucci. I have not tested it to know for sure, but it will depend on the person as we all have different genetic makeups that allow some people to "get away" with consuming alcohol and never having any breakouts, and some people will break out ferociously.

An easy solution is to test it for yourself as stated in the blog. Remove it for a few days to a week and see if any changes occur. Or, take notice to when you drink alcohol; do you notice spots to appear a day after? Two days after? What happens when you remove it and then drink it again? Take notes and write them down somewhere where you won't lose it. It is a good idea to note quantities and types of alcohol in the journal as well, i.e. Two 8 ounces of red wine, etc.

Doing this trial and error will allow you to know for sure if it is alcohol that causes those spots from time to time.

I hope this helps!~
